Strencom announces EUR150K private network for GameStop
Strencom, one of Ireland’s fastest growing providers of hosting and data connectivity services, has announced that it has won a EUR150,000 contract over four years to supply a private broadband network to GameStop, one of the worlds largest PC and video game retailers. The new system streamlines GameStop’s stock-control and accounts systems, enabling cost effective, immediate access to stock, accounts and marketing information across all outlets. Strencom secured the deal against stiff competition from other suppliers.
Strencom supplied and manages the twenty eight outlet GameStop branch network in the Republic of Ireland. It enables the European headquarters and Irish head office in Swords to have access to all transactions as they occur. This gives the company a real-time view of stock, point of sale and cash register information for each shop at the touch of a button. As new outlets are set up, they can be easily and securely linked into this Private ADSL high-speed wide area network via existing telephone lines.
Soon, they plan to add VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), to the network, thus further reducing costs. This will enable free calls among all branches and reduced calling costs to external lines. It will also mean that the head office receives only one telephone bill, covering all branches, instead of 28 separate bills. GameStop currently employs 270 staff across 28 branches in the Republic of Ireland and the VoIP facility will mean total savings of up to 30% on current telephone and internet bills.
Sankar Nayar, IT Manager for GameStop said, "The benefits of working with Strencom will be far-reaching. Strencom has taken over the day-to-day monitoring of the network between our branches, freeing the IT department to attend to our core needs. Integration of the systems has meant significant savings for Gamestop, further enabling us to compete effectively in the market place. We can also now solve system issues remotely, thus saving time and money."
Tim Murphy, Managing Director of Strencom said, “GameStop needed a reliable, high-availability connection which would service their existing network of branches as well as new outlets as they come on-stream. We have been able to provide strict service level agreements that will help them to guarantee highest service levels for customers and branch employees. We feel that we are more than a supplier to GameStop – we see ourselves as a strategic partner, helping them to streamline their business.”
