Strencom Launch ADSL Broadband
Strencom, the Cork based Independent Internet Service Provider (ISP) has today launched their new ADSL Broadband Internet service. Strencom signed an agreement with Eircom Wholesale back in June to get access to the last mile of the local loop, thus enabling them to provide broadband over a normal phone line, and giving access speeds of up to 40 times faster than a normal dial up modem, and over 30 times the speed of normal ISDN. Since signing the agreement with Eircom for Bitstream service, Strencom has been testing the service extensively and its now live.
As well as the major investment required to roll out ADSL Broadband, Strencom plan to invest over €1.5m in the next 2 years to provide Broadband across the country. “From day one of our launch, we can provide Broadband in over 150 exchanges right across the country” said Tim Murphy, Managing Director, at the launch. “By the end of Quarter 1 next year, that will be over 200 exchanges, and over 1.5m lines.
Our initial connectivity to Eircom is a dedicated 155Mb (STM1), which would allow over 14,000 customer connections before having to upgrade. “While we can connect that amount of customers, in reality we don’t expect to reach that figure for quite some time, as our service is aimed at the Business customer, and not home users directly.”
For the launch Strencom ISP are matching the current offering by Esat & Eircom to give free access for 3 months, with free set-up, and a free router. Strencom are also extending the offer until the end of 2004 and are the first ISP to do so. Any customer that transfers from another provider will get 50% off any of Strencom’s anti-virus products, which could save companies thousands over the life of their anti-virus.
Strencom ISP has looked at all the other competing products and has taken the best aspects from all other provides and packaged it into one, including providing a business class support service with access via a Lo-Call 1890 number.
Customer can expect to be connected within 5 days for standard orders in 85% of cases.
Strencom will be providing the Broadband ADSL through a network of resellers, a direct sales channel, and wholesale to large providers that don’t want to set up their own ADSL infrastructure. “We are currently looking for new resellers to sell our services to their customers. There are many networking companies using the big one or two providers such as Eircom and EsatBT, and they want a more personal and professional service, and we can provide that.” Commented Tim Murphy.
As part of the ADSL service Strencom are also offering a dedicated / private ADSL service which will allow companies with multiple sites connect all their sites together in a private network that does not touch the Internet. It is a fully monitored and managed WAN solution with guaranteed responses to outages on a pro-active basis. This service can save tens of thousands of euro over existing WAN solutions provided by other Telecom Companies.
Strencom was established in 2000 by Tim Murphy, and provides Leased Line, Server Co-Location & Linux Professional Services to corporate customers. Initially based in Cork, Strencom now also have POP’s in Dublin & Shannon and provide services to companies nationwide.
